Tuesday, 1/28 Healthtech Talent Mixer: Winter 2025 Edition. MarkOne Health and Women in Healthtech are back for the 3rd edition of their extremely popular NYC healthtech talent mixer. If you're looking for cofounders, looking to hire, or looking to get hired into the best NYC pre-seed, seed, and series A healthtech or medical device teams, this event is for you. (Last year, the organizers had to limit attendees because of capacity limitations, so please apply early if you would like to participate!)
(NEW!) Tuesday, 1/28 DeSciNYC: The Plague in Academic Publishing. Dr. Mu Yang will share how she became the lead sleuth in the Eliezer Masliah case, uncovering falsified data in over 130 research papers spanning decades. Masliah, a prominent neuropathologist and former Director of Neuroscience at the NIA, had a profound influence on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s research, shaping billions in funding and drug development. This talk will examine the implications of this case, its impact on scientific integrity, and the broader challenges of addressing misconduct in academic publishing.
(NEW!) Tuesday, 1/28 ECHO Biotech Happy Hour. Coming off a busy week in San Francisco, the New York biotech community is back for a JPM “afterburner” event. As always, come and join for an evening of casual networking and conversation with the ecosystem’s healthcare entrepreneurs, clinicians and operators, and get the lowdown on this year’s JP Morgan healthcare conference.
(NEW!) Wednesday, 1/29 SVG Fireside Chat with Roshni Bhakta. Join the Weill Cornell Startup Venture Group (SVG) for an exciting fireside chat with Dr. Roshini Bhakta, the Vice President of Business Development and Alliances at BioNTech, where she, among other deals, negotiated the crucial collaboration between BioNTech and Pfizer to develop their COVID-19 vaccine. This fireside chat will cover that story, as well as Dr. Bhakta’s career trajectory and perspectives on the future of biotech innovation.
(NEW!) Wednesday, 1/29 Climate Pints January Gathering. The NYC climate and sustainability scene is gathering back a Prime Produce in Hell’s Kitchen for an evening of conversation, drinks, snacks, and even the occasional board game. Sip sustainably and share good vibes amongst the beloved climate geek community.
(NEW!) Thursday, 1/30 Winter Open Data Meetup. The NYC Open Data Week team and Data Through Design are hosting a winter meetup event, and everyone is welcome! Save the date for a festive night in Downtown Brooklyn to mingle with fellow open data fans and members of the broader New York Civic Tech community.
(NEW!) Thursday, 1/30 Harlem Biospace mixer with CarbonBridge. CleanTech startup CarbonBridge is back in the city and excited to get more plugged in to the biotech/cleantech ecosystem! Founders, grad students, budding interns, funders and supporters of biotech in NYC are all invited to join the CarbonBridge team for an evening of light snacks and drinks in their brand new space at Harlem Biospace @ Mink.
(NEW!) Friday-Sunday, 2/7-2/9 Cornell AI Hackathon. Cornell, Cornell Tech, and other partners from the local technology ecosystem are bringing together minds of all kinds to dive into the frontiers of artificial intelligence. For this weekend-long hackathon, participants are encouraged to explore the applications, considerations and advantages of AI in academia. From pedagogy to education, from how we learn and what is taught, join for this novel game-changing hackathon where students work alongside university faculty, staff, and decision makers!
(NEW!) Sunday, 2/16 DeSciNYC: The Science of Supplements. Dr. Kirten Parekh, a board-certified podiatric surgeon and clinical nutritionist who serves as CMO of Dosable and Co-Founder of Tangl and Klora, joins the DeSciNYC group to talk about the science and challenges behind supplementation, as well as some of the supplements that can potentially rise above the pseudo-scientific noise of the industry.
(NEW!) Wednesday, 2/19 Women in Robotics NYC Meetup. Join the NYC Women in Robotics group for an exciting event at local 3D printing manufacturer Makelab! This gathering is open to everyone—from seasoned robotics professionals to curious newcomers. The agenda for the evening will include hands-on workshops, networking opportunities, and food and drink.
(NEW!) Wednesday, 2/26 NY Hardware Meetup. The 103rd iteration of New York’s long-running hard tech meetup heads over to City Tech in Downtown Brooklyn for a deep-dive into the medtech ecosystem. Featuring a lineup of speakers covering everything from BCI to 3D printing (including one speaker you might have heard of before… 👀), this can’t-miss meetup will span the bridge between two of NYC’s most exciting emerging fields.
(NEW!) Tuesday, 3/4 Sh!t Pitch Live. Kind of a pitch version of “two truths and a lie”, join a collection of founders, funders, and innovators for this nationally recognized pitch event — as seen on CNBC — where founders showcase their adaptability, communication skills, and more to top-tier investors. Three up-and-coming founders pitch their real Pre-Seed or Seed round ideas—plus one hilariously FAKE business concept to keep everyone on their toes. It’s the ultimate test of grit, creativity, and charm!
(NEW!) Friday-Sunday, 3/7-3/9 Cornell Tech Health Hackathon. One of the longest running health tech events in NYC is back for the tenth iteration of this annual hackathon. Over 100 students from diverse disciplinary backgrounds and a variety of universities will descend upon NYC for a weekend of rapid proto-typing with guidance from industry experts. On Sunday teams demo their proof-of-concepts for awards and accolades. Applications to participate are still open and participants from any institution are welcome to join!
(NEW!) Friday-Sunday, 3/14-3/16 MIT Hacking Medicine Grand Hack. The start of spring means hackathon season and with it, the hackathon that started them all. Bringing together participants from around the country and world, this weekend-long hackathon will focus on three topic areas of health — Assistive Technology, Heart Health, and Transformative Intelligence — to inspire a marathon of prototyping, pitching, and problem-solving. Participants from all institutions are welcome to apply to this premier hackathon, which has on multiple occasions served as the jumping-off point for new healthcare technology ventures.
